Sigma chapter of the Kappa Alpha Order was established at Davidson in 1880. It is currently the oldest existing fraternity at Davidson. KA looks to instill the values of integrity and honor, and we strive to produce gentlemen and leaders that will continue to exhibit the values of KA long after college. The brothers of KA pride themselves on strong brotherhood, and it is the friendship and bonds that exist among them that give KA its unique character and personality.
On March 13, Davidson held its annual event benefitting Relay for Life. Some of the brothers of Kappa Alpha Order volunteered as members of the executive board of Relay at Davidson and were very involved in making the event a success. Most other brothers gave their time and energy to fundraise and participate in the event. All told, KA had four different fundraising teams for Relay (organized by class), who collectively raised over $11,000 dollars which placed us among the top four teams of the whole event.
In late April, the Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order partnered with the tennis team and Connor House to throw the annual Jay Chitty Tennis Tournament in honor of Jay Chitty, a KA and tennis player who died in a plane crash with three family members on December 31, 2006. This tournament benefits the Jay Chitty Memorial tennis scholarship. It was a big success with over 120 participants and around $1,700 raised.
The Sigma Chapter of Kappa Alpha Order also holds fundraising events every year to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy Association, which is KA's national charity.
The Kappa Alpha Order mission statement reads: Excellence is our Aim. They were founded December 21, 1865, and are represented by the colors crimson and old gold.
